Ebony Tea House: The Best Curated Gift Boxes For The Fall

The Fall season has arrived and one of my favorite trends from last year was gifting someone with a spooky basket!

I wanted to put a twist on it and share a Black-owned business that sells beautiful, curated gift boxes that are perfect for the fall time!

Whether you are going to a Friendsgiving, having a Halloween party with friends, or doing a gift exchange for Christmas, this tea box is the perfect gift for anyone! (or even for yourself!)

Let’s get right into what Ebony Tea House is all about!

The Startup

Ebony Tea House was established on December 10, 2019, by Gene’ L. Jones in Central, Texas!

Gene’ explained that she was inspired to start a tea business because as a young girl, she was always fascinated with teacups.

Then as she matured and had her daughter, they started to plan and execute tea parties.

This led to her beginning to research and look for photos of people drinking tea.

It quickly became clear that there were many old black & white photos of Caucasians having tea parties, but only a few (maybe two or three) photos of African Americans.

This inspired her to purchase the “Green Book” and to find tea rooms throughout each state to visit them.

Through these visits, she became inspired to have a Black tea room/house which is how she came up with the name ‘Ebony Tea House’!

The Product

Ebony Tea House specializes in curated gift boxes and has a vast selection of tea gift boxes to choose from such as:

What’s included in the curated gift boxes?

  • And so much more!

All of the boxes do not include every item, but they do have most of them!

If you are looking for something specifically for Spooky Season, Gene’ created a handful of seasonal boxes that anyone would love!

This comes with the remixed version of Alice in Wonderland book (#BlackGirlMagic)  along with treats such as Biscoff cookies, Boom Chicka Pop, Gummi Bears, and Tea samples!

The Experience

Gene’ has been in business for nearly a year, so we wanted to see what she has enjoyed the most and what has challenged her.

She stated that her favorite part about owning her own business is the gratification of seeing and hearing about her customer’s reactions after they received a tea gift box.

On the other hand, her biggest challenge has been trying to advertise both locally and online.

Finding a routine that works may take a while and through this past year, she has learned how vital social media is for a business and how much of an impact influencers make on businesses.

She has also learned that having professional photos taken of her business has been very helpful and important.

Not too long ago she was a new business owner, so she provided some advice to those of you who may be hesitant about starting your business.

Gene’ suggested that you create a business plan and a backup plan for it.

When you are creating the business plan, make sure to research the industry, competition, and seek mentors or advisors with experience to help guide you.
